Last Day in Vancouver

August 5th
Today is my last day in Vancouver and I’ll be in Seattle by late tonight. For my last day here, I have planned to go to the Vancouver Art Gallery. The transit comes in about an hour and the fare is $2.75. I have heard many great things about this gallery. Once I get back from the gallery I will probably go and have dinner somewhere and then go to the Amtrak Station to catch my train to Seattle. My ticket was $35. The train leaves at 5:45p and I should be arriving in Seattle by around 10:00p tonight. While in Seattle, I’ll be staying at the Georgetown Inn for $99 a night. I’m very excited to see what Seattle is like, but I’ll be sad to be saying goodbye to Vancouver. I’m about to go down to the lounge and have breakfast then make my way to the Art Gallery.

Getting back from the Art Gallery

August 5th
I have just recently got back from the Art Gallery. The tour I took was $13.50 and well worth it! I got to see so many beautiful works of art. There was a significant collection of paintings by Canadian modernist Emily Carr, who was known for using splashy, bold colors to bring B.C.’s unique landscape and culture to life. In 1937, the gallery purchased Carr’s Totem Poles, Kitseukla for $400; it inherited the rest of her collection in the 1960s. Today, I got to see the full collection of paintings, sketches, ceramics, photographs and letters by one of British Columbia’s most ground-breaking natives. It was truly amazing. After, my tour I took a visit to the Art Gallery Store and Café. The gift shop had books on contemporary art and the creative history of Canada. There were also replicas of Emily Carr’s paintings and you can find posters, jewelry, scarves, toys, ceramics, and much more too. It is supposedly consistently voted as one of the best gift shops in the city. The Café had a great variety of food, but I ended up getting a salad and a latte before leaving, as I heard they have the best lattes in the city. It really was delicious and they had one of downtown’s prime outdoor patios. I absolutely loved my day at the Art Gallery. Now, I’m going to go to an dinner at Unforgettable Pizza in downtown Vancouver. I love pizza! It is my goal to try pizza in every city I visit on my trip.

I arrived in Seattle last night at about 10:10p, the train ride here was very enjoyable. The cab fare from the station to the hotel was around $19. The hotel I'm staying at is the Panama Hotel for $107 a night, it is very clean and the staff is very friendly. Seattle is such a beautiful and artistic city. For my first day here, I’m going to do a Savor Seattle Food tour for $44. I’ll be able to taste foods from local artisans and restaurants in the historic 105 year old landmark, I'll be able to learn about the market’s history and meet the community of people that keep it alive. I’m also going to see the original Starbucks store, I'm very excited!

Day Two - Seattle

While here in Seattle it is a MUST to go to a Mariners game. I am a baseball fanatic and my visit here would be incomplete without visiting Safeco Field. So, I will be going to an evening game tonight, I’m very excited as the only other baseball field I've been to is the Roger’s Centre at home. At the stadium, I will be able to have a great view of the city’s skyline while enjoying some major league baseball action. During the day I’ll be taking a tour on ‘Ride the Ducks’ for $32. The tour is an hour and a half on land and half an hour in water. The ‘Ducks’ is an amphibious landing craft that was developed by the United States Army during World War II and the guides are Coast Guard-certified maritime captains. On the tour I will be able to see all the major sights of Seattle and the captains will play music, share jokes, and tell people about the city and its history.

Last Day in Seattle

I am currently at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport waiting to board my plane to Acapulco, Mexico! Today was my last day in Seattle and I took a visit to the famous Space Needle. It was amazing and only $24.25. I was able to see Seattle’s entire metropolis including EMP, which people have rumoured looks like a smashed guitar from above and it really does! I could also see the Olympic and Cascade mountains including Mt. Rainer, Mt. Baker, Elliott Bay, and even islands! It only took 41 seconds to reach the observation deck that is 520ft. above the ground. I then went to Veraci Pizza and had some great pizza. They put the pizzas in their very own clay ovens at a screaming 1000 degree temperatures and the pizza was ready in ninety seconds. It was super cool! It’s time to board my plane, I can't wait to be in Mexico!
